DIAMOND KOHINOOR BELONGS TO SIKH NATION.

The Kohi-Noor, to whom does it belong? Kohi-Noor is the property of Sikhs only so what if presently studded in British crown but it belongs to us. We sikhs are the owners of Kohi-Noor. Maharaja Ranjit Singh paid a hefty price to Shah Shuja and got it.

On Nov.28, 1849, Lord Dalhausie inspected the Tosha Khana articles(Treasury) and decided not only on the sale of the most of the property but also on the removal of certain valuables to England for presentation to the queen and for preservation in official museums there. The Maharaja was allowed to take with him only a very small part of his things to Fatehgarh in the United Provinces where he was removed in February 1850. “There were at least eight public sales of the so-called ‘Lahore Confiscated property’. The last two of which the catalogues are available in reprints, were conducted on December 2, 1850, and for nine successive days. No record is available of the sum of money realised by these sales. the only figure known is that Rs. 1,39, 287 were realized for 95 items out of 952 of the second catalogues, it seems probable that the purchase money amounted to upwards of Rs. 10,00,000. this is for the second sale only. As there were, at least, seven other sales, it may bnot be too much to put the whole sum realized by the sale of the property at fifty lakhs of rupees”. The treaty of 1849 (Annexation) declared that all property of the state of Lahore shall be confiscated. Article 3 of the same Treaty treats the Kohinoor as the private property of the Maharaja, for by it the Maharaja is made to surrender the kohinoor to the queen of England – showing that it was not amongst the property confiscated in Article 2; and the same character holds good as to the other jewels derived from Shah Shuja, for an emerald with Ahmad shah’s name engraved upon it, and a saddle pommel made of a single emerald, both from the source, were included among the articles as his private property. Thus it was unjustiable to characterize the property contained in the catalogues as having been confiscated by the treaty of Lahore.

Maharaja Duleep Singh – The duped child king (6th Sep. 1838 – 22nd Oct. 1893).

In response to a report on BBC NEWS dated 29th July 2010, David Cameron(British PM on visit to India) has rejected calls for the famous Koh-i-Noor diamond, which has been part of the Crown Jewels for 150 years, to be returned to India.

I better warn the British Government that in case this precious diamond is ever returned , then it has to be returned to Darbar Sahib or Golden temple, Amritsar (Punjab), not to government of India because it was never a state property.

Though it was confiscated by Lord Dalhusie as he claims but actually Lord Dalhousie duped the child king which is discussed here and some honest British person like John Sullivan questioned the British Empire in July 1850.

Kohi-Noor is the property of Sikhs only, not of government of India.

But historian Dr Anna Keay told the BBC that since its creation, the diamond had had many different owners, being in Persian and Afghan as well as Indian hands.

“The crucial thing is this diamond has been in circulation certainly since the beginning of the 16th Century during which time it has been in the hands of whole sequence of different rulers,” told Radio 4’s Today programme.

“The question is to which point do you take it back.”

The Koh-i-noor belonged to Maharaja Ranjit Singh and if it is to be returned it should be returned to Sikhs. But if Sikhs are given the koh-i-noor now it won’t be safe as the Indian Government won’t allow Sikhs to have it. Sikhs have had to fight so much injustice as being a minority and something that is rightfully ours should be given back to us- another injustice after not having our own country.

Other religions and countries are greedy and wrongly asking for the koh-i-noor and the British clearly know they stole it from Sikhs so should return it back to Sikhs. Simple.

I think British should keep the koh-i-noor safe for now and give it back to Sikhs once we Sikhs hopefully have our own country in the future.
