The success story of Bhai Iqbal Singh Bhatti, how one man changed the scenario in India?

30 year gone by since Indian army invaded the sanctum sanctorum of Golden temple and demolished the historical Akal Takhat, the treasury looted and library with old manuscript and other Sikh literature torched to abolish Sikh culture and to destroy evidences of Sikh heritage and history of it’s bravery.

Then Sikh nation was compelled to go through carnage in same year just after five months of Operation bluestar. The Sikh youths were burnt alive with garland of Tyre in their neck, their women were raped, their moveable and moveable properties were either looted or set on fire to make them penniless. The justice was denied to them. No chief organizer who was responsible for orchestrating the pogrom of Delhi and in some other towns of India,never punished but they were given awards and posted on influential posts, some were adorned in Cabinet too and never questioned on their involvement in Sikh genocide. Rajiv Gandhi himself was responsible for this massacre but he was given a clear mandate by Hindu nation in the Parliamentary election held soon after the genocide. He was given clean majority in the upper house of Parliament. Thus by their majority votes, Hindus approved the massacre by their vote power.

Since then the Sikhs in India are making every effort to book these culprits but their every effort was of no use as the ruling govt. of India itself was protecting them from clutches of law. Only a few name figured against whom some widows took a firm stand and witnessed against them in court but the Courts made fun with their witness and discredit them and remarked that the witnesses were not reliable?

See how the Sikhs are discriminated in India? Here is an example of the dual policy of justice, how the Sikhs are dealt in Indian courts? Prof Davinder Singh Bhullar was arrested in Germany on travelling on fake passport. He applied for political asylum as he was feared of his life in India but he was deported to which Germany regretted. He was brought in India in 1991 and since then he is imprisoned. He was alleged of a bomb blast in Delhi in 1991. Before that his father and uncle had been killed by SSP Sumedh Saini of Punjab Police(currentlt appointed as DGP, Punjab) and some villagers were beaten badly. Due to fear of Punjab police, he fled from India but unfortunately arrested in Germany.

The Delhi police produced 133 witnesses against him but none witnessed against him, none accepted if Bhullar was ever seen at the site of crime. In a split decision the Supreme court of India ordered his execution.He is gone insane and out of his senses but Govt. of India wants to see him hanged.

On the contrary, a chief organizer of Sikh genocide who is alleged of leading the mob and of provocation to order the mob (Death squads) to kill the Sikhs, was acquitted by an Indian Court and refused to accept the witnesses testimony who recognized the culprit Sajjan kumar in the Court.

For the last 30 years Sikhs India are fighting for justice, the victim families appear in Courts on every date at their own expenses in the hope of justice which they are never delivered. If they do not come on given dates, their case could be dismissed in their absence but the accused roam free and govt. has provided them security cover to enjoy their life? These accused are never questioned or ever interrogated irrespective of gravity of charge leveled against them. It’s just because the ruling Congress itself was a party in this pogrom.

When these atrocities were not tolerated by a Sikh gentleman in France, he better decided to risk his life. He went on a hunger strike (FAST UNTO DEATH) in Paris on 5^th Dec. 2013. To pressurize the Indian govt. he  shifted his base to Mohali on 18^th December but here he continued till 31^st Dec and then he arrived Delhi and continued his FAST UNTO DEATH from 1^st January 2014.

This man Iqbal Singh Bhatti had a hunger strike in Delhi in May 2013. Arvind Kejriwal too paid a visit to see him and discussed on his demands. He assured Iqbal Singh that if his govt. is formed, he will certainly do justice with Sikhs and make efforts that the demand of Sikh nation be accepted by central govt. also.

By the grace of God, a miracle happened and the party of AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) came in power and Arvind Kejriwal was sworn in the Chief minister of Delhi. The Sikh organizations approached CM and reminded him with demands of Sikh nation. Arvind Kejriwal immediately assured Iqbal Singh Bhatti and the Sikh nation to accept his demands and sent a LETTER OF ASSURANCE on 25^th January 2014 to Iqbal Singh in this regard and requested him to end his fast.

But bhai Iqbal Singh wanted to consult with some leaders of Sant Samaj and other Sikh organization who stood beside him and gave their kind support to accomplish the success of mission. So he requested for two more days time to discuss the issues.

On 27^th January, the press and leaders of AAP, (two MLAs Jagdeep Singh & Jarnail Singh ji, and members of Sikh organizations, volunteers, Sukhwinder singh Khalsa from Sirsa arrived on behalf of Sant samaj, Karnail Singh Peer mohammad President All India Sikh Students Federation, Bibi Nirpreet Kaur, a victim herself and represented justice for victims, Harminder Singh Khalsa from United Sikh mission with his supporting Sikh Org. like Sri Akal Sahaai Foundation, myself Ajmer Singh Randhawa from SEVA-84,UK were also presented among chief invitees.

In presence of all these eminent personalities, Bhai Iqbal Singh ended his fast on 57^th day. MLA from AAP Sardar Jagdeep Singh ji offered glass of orange juice to Iqbal Singh bhatti and he gladly accepted it.

His demands were as follows:

1-     Release of Professor Bhullar,

2-     Formation of Special Investigating Team (SIT) to probe Sikh genocide

3-     To form FAST TRACK COURTS to deal Sikh genocide cases,

4-     The pogrom of Delhi be called as GENOCIDE as it was not RIOT as the riots occurs in two or more people or groups of people involved but here only Sikhs were targeted,

5-     The Sikhs abroad in European countries who have taken asylum there, Indian passport should be issued to them and their family members, as they are Indian nationals but they fled from India in fear of their lives and took asylum to stay there,
6-     To put blacklist of Sikhs on a website for transparency and every effort should be made to abolish it in the interest of nation and its integrity and unity.

Soon after his end of fast, Arvind Kejriwal declared that Sikhs are also Indian nationals, they are not Americans or Pakistanis and then why their genuine demands should not be accepted? He wrote a letter to President for release of Bhullar and another letter to LG of Delhi to form a SIT. In a case against Sajjan kumar accused of 1984, a court ordered the case be taken on daily basis as it’s on snail’s move means it’s accepted on FAST TRACK.

The govt. of India also ordered to issue passports to children below 18 years of age and we hope sooner others will also be benefitted.

Bhai iqbal Singh never takes credit himself. In his words, he is thankful to all the volunteers and Sikh organizations who gave him full support. It was a difficult task to which Sikh nation was denied for the last 30 years. Had the govt. in Delhi not changed, miracle not happened and if Arvind had not been sworn as CM of Delhi, it would have been difficult to accomplish the mission without support of all of them. He is grateful to almighty Waheguru also as by his kind the govt. in Delhi got changed and a kind heart honest person took charge of it.

Bhai Iqbal Singh bhatti has proved if a mission is started honestly and for cause of humanity, the Lord himself presents in it to support and to give strength despite all odds. Thanks to Bhai Iqbal Singh ji’s kind effort, he did what we the Sikhs in india could not do it in last 30 years. He has filled a new strength in our veins and now the fight shall continue with more spirit. We will continue fight until the perpetrators of sikh genocide are not punished and justice is not given to our dead brothers.
