Deepa Mehta, a film producer of Indian origin, presently living in Toronto, Canada has cast Amitabh bacchan in a lead role as great freedom fighter Baba Gurditt Singh in her upcoming film KAMAGATTA MARU.
She tried to shoot a film on Hindu widows as Water, the story of an eight-year-old child widow who is forced to enter a house of widows for the rest of her life. The film, meant to be shot in India, was attacked by Hindu fundamentalists. Riots broke out, sets were destroyed and death threats were issued towards the actors and Mehta, forcing the film to stop production. Four years later the movie was made in Sri Lanka.Water opened the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2006.
When Hindus of this nation forced her to stop shooting on a subject which they felt humiliative, how could Sikhs allow her to shoot the film on great incident of history of Sikhs? How could she cast the monster, alleged mass murderer of 1984 sikh genocide Amitabh Bacchan to play lead role as BABA GURDITT SINGH? She must be questioned on TV and Radio in Canada other then articles to be written in Punjabi newspapers. How could she dare to hurt our sentiments? She must be questioned by sikhs in Canada.
